Physical and Chemical exfoliation

The importance of Physical and chemical exfoliation pre and post waxing

Let’s talk about body waxing. When removing the hair, a type of wax (Estheticians choice) is applied to the area and then removed taking the hair with it.  This is an amazing thing for long lasting hairless skin but you now have an open hair follicle that is susceptible to getting clogged with Oil and dead skin cells. When we talk after care, we are talking about keeping these follicles open and clear so the new hair can come to the surface without becoming stuck. The most common things that happen are ingrown hairs and Pimples. This is where physical and Chemical exfoliation is key to preventing this to achieve the best results.

Let’s break it down

Physical exfoliation is when you are using a tool such as a glove, dry brush or something that is rough to essentially scuff the dead skin and dirt off the skin. This is going to keep the surface clear and free of buildup that occurs when you get an ingrown hair.

Chemical exfoliation is when you use a product with active ingredients to penetrate into the follicle clearing the dead skin cells, Oil and dirt. Post-waxing products should contain active ingredients that soothe, disinfect, and prevent ingrown hairs. Key ingredients to look for include:

  1. Salicylic Acid: This beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) helps exfoliate the skin and prevent ingrown hairs
  1. Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera helps calm irritated skin after waxing
  1. Witch Hazel: This natural astringent cleanses the skin, reduces excess oil, and helps prevent breakouts
  1. Tea Tree Oil: With its antiseptic properties, tea tree oil helps prevent infections in freshly waxed areas
  1. Jojoba Oil: This lightweight oil moisturizes the skin without clogging pores, helping to keep the waxed area hydrated
  1. Green Tea Extract: A powerful antioxidant that reduces inflammation and helps protect the skin
  1. Vitamin E: This antioxidant aids in skin healing and helps reduce redness
  1. Camphor Oil: Known for its cooling effect, camphor oil can help soothe irritated skin post-waxing

When choosing post-waxing products, look for formulations that combine these active ingredients to provide comprehensive care for your freshly waxed skin.
